<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">There are a great many teachers that have existed and that number continues to grow, and one of the original teachers of financial abundance says it like no one else. Below are Earl Nightingales 3 steps to success

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Understanding the law- Knowing that what we reap is an exact proportion to what we sow. In other words the money you make is a reflection of what you do, how well you do it and how hard it is for you to be replaced. Take in consideration how good you are at your job, how much do you know about it and can you improve yourself. The more you educate yourself on the in’s and out’s of your type of work you eventually become an expert in your field. An expert is not only recognized as such, but becomes indispensable to their company or community there by increasing his or her income and creating a greater and greater safety net of income.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">The Gold mine- Do you think for yourself or do you conform to the majority of the world around you. The game changers of this world used their brains to purposely be creative in order to follow their dreams. They take the time to think outside of the box. The human brain can conjure up thousands of ideas, most may be bad, but it only takes one idea to create millions of dollars. Conforming and copying others makes you like them and keeps you limited. We are all unique individuals with unique perspectives, abilities and skills. It is worth taking time every day to tap into and think about who we really are and what we really want out of this life. Take time everyday to create lists of ways that you can use to improve your life or to follow your dreams.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Attitude- Ones attitude towards the world is reflected back at him by his environment. In other words we become what we think about the most. What are you thinking about all day long? Do you see problems or solutions? Are you thankful for what you have or constantly focused on what you don’t have or what others have? Putting on a good attitude utilizes the law of cause and effect for good. Decide to be happier, to be more grateful, focus on the good let go and forgive the bad and soon opportunities will show them selves to you where once you saw nothing. A person with a great attitude is considered lucky, but in reality he is thankful.

truth is that we are beings of pure love, joy, abundance and energy. We create
our own lives through our thoughts, feelings, beliefs and actions. The illusion
is that we are not this, but the opposite. To understand this illusion, we must
understand what the ego is and how it affects our consciousness. Imagine
yourself as a mirror, that when clean the truth is like the Suns reflection
lighting up your whole world in a million and one ways. The ego is a dirty
mirror full of grimy false ideas, opinions and beliefs about the world that
drive our actions, habits and reactions. Some of these ideas have been there

practices like meditation can quiet the mind enough for you to recognize how
attached you are to your thoughts. Recognizing a difference between you and
your thoughts is a good way to see that you are more then them, which helps you
let go of the ones that feel bad. Doing so helps you see the domino effect from
your thoughts and beliefs to your reactions, actions and over all habits. Life
starts from the inside, if you want to change the world around you start with
acknowledging what you think off and then choose to consciously think better.

meditation or before sleep ask your higher power to clean those negative traits

When it comes to our teeth besides making sure they're clean on a daily basis we don't really give them a second thought until there is a problem. Problems can vary from minor toothaches to huge abscesses under the teeth. Besides brushing, flossing and going to the dentist here is a list of the natural things you can have to help alleviate tooth and gum pain along with reversing gum disease and strengthening teeth.

1. Eat more Mango and Pomegranate
In his book Healing Spices, by Bharat Aggarwal, PHD mango and pomegranate fruit show healing effects on our gums. Mangos contain an antioxidant in them called mangiferin that show reduction on preiodontal disease and slowed the rate of bone loss. The same goes for pomegranates, in a Brazilian study researchers used pomegranate mouth wash that showed reduction in dental plaque greater then commercial mouthwashes. In Thailand researchers used pomegranate extract on gum disease, which lessened gum erosion and plaque and even reduced fungal infections on those who wore dentures.

2. Clove, Peppermint, Spearmint, Cinnamon, Neem and or Myrrh spices
Use toothpaste that contains one or more of the above for long term care. You could also use the essential oil versions of these directly in the mouth, but you have to becareful because they could potentially be hazardous to you. Overall they are antibacterial, antiseptic and antifungal powerhouses that are great for gum issues, but they can also burn the inside of your mouth or be toxic like spearmint if swallowed. So take caution before using them as essential oils.

3. Ground Clove
Ground Clove is my go to emergency spice if I have a toothache, it contains a mild anesthetic, kills bad bacteria, which is good to fight off a tooth abscess and it also freshens breath in one shot.

4. GIN
In case of severe pain, this next natural item helped me, Gin. Yes, you must be 21years old to obtain it, but all you need is less then one shot and then keep in your mouth over the infected tooth or gum. Its only good to do if you are in severe pain, the gin will soak in the gums killing bad bacteria and slowly reduce the pain. Gin is usually made from natural plants like juniper, which also holds medicinal properties in them.

5. Saliva
Clean your teeth with your own saliva. You read that right, it may even do a better job of cleaning your teeth then flossing. After you eat or when ever you have a few minutes its good to start swishing around your own saliva, which has been shown to have antibacterial, antiviral and analgesic properties. Its also the first step in digestion, the enzymes in your saliva break down food so your stomach has an easier job to do, thats why its good to always chew well.

6. Oil Pull
A technique that can involve any type of food grade organic oil, usually coconut, which involves taking a teaspoon of oil and slowly swishing it in your mouth. Swish for about 20 minutes at least 1 hour after eating, then spitting and rinsing your mouth out. This technique is used to pull out bad bacteria that maybe causing abscesses or other infections to occur in the body, its also used to help whiten teeth and get rid of bad breath.

7. Diatomaceous Earth
Drinking or taking food grade organic Diatomaceous Earth (DE) is one of those compounds that hardly anyone knows about and it can do multiple things for you. It has high amounts of trace minerals especially silica, which is essential to our teeth and over all health. People use it on a daily basis to help re-mineralize teeth and bones, helps the body over come infections, regulates blood pressure and cleanses the body of parasites. It also can increase energy so if you take it, don't take it at night, I also found the powder form only mixes well with juice.

The spleen, according to chinese medicine, is an organ of immense importance in the human body. In todays scientific world we're just beginning to see it for all it does for us. Thanks to research we're learning that it recycles and stores immune and blood cells, creates the immune cells that protect us internally and externally, matter of fact its the largest lymphatic organ in the body, so its vital for fighting off infections.

These attributes are significant to our health, but in Chinese medicine the spleen does so much more, it is essentially what helps us function optimally. It is part of the digestive system and because of this its reach is through out the body. It helps control the break down of food in the stomach, which in turn breaks down into every new cell being born, including blood, bone and immune cells.

Besides the vital role of a healthy diet, a healthy spleen is important to all of our cellular activities, which includes our metabolism, energy, quality of sleep, elasticity and tone of skin and muscles.
Over all its functions are:

Transforming and transporting the breakdown of food

Controls the energetic pathways between all organs

Helps create and control blood in the vessels

Controls and nourishes muscles and tissue

Its health reflects into the lips and its digestion abilities begin with saliva

Spiritually its our intellect and controls our ability to take in information

Emotionally affected by over thinking

When the spleen is weak and deficient it can weigh down every other organ in the body, causing an array of symptoms. Here are some of the symptoms that can be attributed to the spleen:

Easily Bruised

Anemia

Insomnia

Fatigue

Obesity

Bunions

Snoring

Gas

Diarrhea

Bloating

I.B.S.

When it comes to improving the symptoms of a deficient spleen, alternative therapies like acupuncture can do wonders to help boost it functions, especially when a good diet, exercise and
plenty of sleep just aren't enough. In general there is a point on the body that can be manipulated with acupressure, acupuncture, massage, or heat that can help boost the inherit functions of the spleen.

This point is called Spleen 3 or Taibai in Chinese, which translates to Greater White. This point is an area of the body that pools spleen energy. The location of this point is the exact location where bunions usually appear on the foot, on the inside of the foot just below the big toe.

Massaging this area a few times a day for about five minutes can tap into the deeper levels of spleen energy that can help alleviate some of the above symptoms. Of course if you suffer from any spleen deficiency symptoms, regular acupuncture treatments can do much more for you.

COPD is a respiratory disease that encompasses a broad spectrum of lung issues including bronchitis and emphysema, it is a growing issue in todays world and is increasingly getting worse. Thanks to western medicine some symptoms like coughing and shortness of breath have been able to be put under control with the use of steroid inhalers. Although there is research coming out now showing that combining western medications with acupuncture is more effective then just medication alone.

Acupuncture sees COPD as a respiratory disease as well, but being chronic it affects other organ systems as well, like the kidneys. The lungs and kidneys typically work in unison together, the kidneys inhale and the lungs exhale. When one system is affected especially after a long time the other system will be affected as well.

Thankfully there are plenty of acupuncture points on the body that can not only help relieve symptoms of COPD, but help over come the underlying root cause. There are two points that can be manually stimulated on a regular basis that may help improve COPD symptoms over time.

These points are connected to the deepest parts of the meridian pathways in the body and are great for COPD, they are lung 7, which lies on the wrist and Kidney 6, which is on the inside of the ankle.

When used together these points strengthen any underlying lung and kidney deficiencies, opening airways and restoring optimal function to the lungs. Separately they can be used for other lung or kidney issues, below is a list of issues these points can be used for and their locations:

Lung 7: In a depression 1.5 thumb widths below the wrist crease, lateral to the styloid process below the thumb.

Colds

Nasal Congestion

Deep Breathing

Asthma

Wrist Pain

Kidney 6: In a depression between two tendons and below the tip of medial malleolus(inside ankle bone)

Dry Throat

Insomnia

Urinary issues

Chest Distention

Firmly pressing or massaging these points with the thumb or index finger for a few minutes, a few times a day may help alleviate some COPD symptoms.

In the world of acupuncture there are at least 400 points, depending on who you talk to, out of the 400 there are about 150 commonly used points. Thats because some points have multiple affects over the body and therefore can be more effective during treatment.

There is one point on the upper body that stands out among different styles of acupuncture that has been shown to be of great clinical value for boosting and increasing:

The immune system

Longevity

Energy

Blood Circulation

In Traditional Chinese and Japanese Acupuncture this point can fall in the same location as the point known as Large Intestine 10(LI10) or Shousanli in chinese meaning Arm 3 miles. In another style of acupuncture, Tung Style, the same point, but slightly different location is called number 33.07 or Hua Fu Hai meaning Fire Bowel Ocean.

This point is known to have a strong effect over the large intestine channel system where it connects both to the lungs and kidneys internally giving it a profound effect over the entire body.

Its actual location can be found by finding the above points, but in general it is good to find the spot where applying pressure hurts the most. LI 10 is found on the forearm under the elbow about two thumb widths below the end of the cubital crease where you could connect a line from the end of the cubital crease to the base of the thumb. 33.07 is located just below LI10 and closer to the radius bone.

The most tender spot in this area is the actual point, press around till you find it, the tenderness is a sign of a blockage in the system and it needs to be worked out. Manipulating the spot with acupressure, acupuncture or heat can decrease its tenderness and increase blood circulation helping to improve multiple issues like:

Asthma

Anemia

Arm atrophy

Tennis elbow

Blurry vision

Sciatica

Allergies

Low back pain

It has many uses and daily massaging this point for a few minutes, multiple times a day can help any of the above conditions. Remember to look for the most tender spot.

Tip: Washing your hands under warm water multiple times a day can stimulate points that can reduce sore throat, cold and flu symptoms.

A sore throat isn't a common complaint people go see an acupuncturist for, but it sometimes happens to tag along with a patients main complaint especially during the fall or winter months. A sore throat can be annoying, irritating, itchy and just uncomfortable. In chinese medicine a sore throat is usually seen as a form of heat or a pathogenic factor trying to invade the body and with out treatment it could go deeper turning into a cold or a flu.

So the point of acupuncture is to release that pathogenic factor and reinforce the body's defense system to push it out. Depending on the perspective of the acupuncturist there are multiple ways to release this foreign invader from the throat. For the most part, points that are considered to be able to open the exterior or the pores of the skin are the way to go, and those are typically found on the hands, arms, face, back and neck.

The points on the hands are the most easily accessible and can even be manipulated by pressure and heat, the points used lie on the outside of the hands. They are connected internally to the lung channel system and anything related to it including the throat, sinus, nasal cavites and the pores of the skin.

The most commonly used points and their locations are:

(Please consult the above picture with the locations described here)

Lung 7 - Radial side of the forearm, in a depression between two tendons, behind the bony bump of the styloid process under the thumb.

Lung 10- The center of the first metacarpal bone of the thumb in the soft tissue of the thenar eminence.

Large Intestine 4- Between the first and second metacarpal bones and just off of the center of the second metacarpal bone.

The large intestine 4 area also can encompass two other points, which are called Lin gu and Da bai all 3 of those points can be manipulated at the same time by rubbing them with the thumb of the opposite hand, as can the other two points listed above.

Massaging these points on both hands for a few minutes a day, multiple times a day can help reduce sore throat symptoms and help prevent a full blown cold or flu to occur. Gently rubbing the points till the skin is red is a good indication that a therapeutic change was made.

I hope this has been a helpful article and remember to please visit your local acupuncturist to boost your immune system or to over come that cold a bit faster this fall and winter season. Thank you for visiting Acuthink

Restless leg syndrome is a very uncomfortable feeling that travels down the legs and makes one need to move or massage the legs in order to stop the uncomfortable feeling. It typically occurs at night while sleeping due to this it can be considered a sleep disorder and it is also believed to be an issue related to the central nervous system.

Most common causes are:
1. Injury to the central nervous system
2. Injury to the Spine
3. Chronic Diseases
4. Certain Medications, particularly antidepressants

Due to its occurrence while at night trying to rest it can also be considered a Shen disturbance, which in chinese typically means mind or spirit. So restless leg syndrome is both a mind and body disturbance.

In acupuncture, points on the midline of the head are directly related to the brain and central nervous system and commonly used to treat motor impairments related to the spine and extremities. Coincidentally the points on the face and top of the head are also used to calm ones Shen, to induce a relaxing state of mind. In general these Shen points are great additional points that can be used during acupuncture treatments to help people relax and get more out of the treatment.

There is one acupuncture point in particular, which comes from Tung style acupuncture that has shown clinical effectiveness in treating restless leg syndrome. This point is called Zheng Jing, which translates to Tranquil and Still. It is just slightly above the midpoint of the eyebrows in the center line of the face, and slightly above another very popular acupuncture point used to calm the mind called Yin Tang.

Both these points can be needled simultaneously, which can have a very positive relaxing effect over both the mind and body. When Zheng Jing is needled, manipulation on the central nervous system occurs, which brings reduced feelings of discomfort in the legs and an easier time trying to relax at night.

Performing acupuncture on this point is a very powerful means of stimulation, but using massage by rubbing the area for a few minutes multiple times a day can also be helpful for reducing the discomfort of restless leg syndrome. It should always be kept in mind that the longer an issue has been around the more treatments will be needed to over come it.

When it comes to fatigue there can be many underlying causes to what is going on in the body. From acute fatigue to chronic fatigue chinese medicine has an answer and can help the body find balance by discovering what the cause is.

Generally, the most common causes come from over work, stress, not enough rest and poor diet. On the other hand for more difficult cases a severe illness like lyme disease, a severe injury, childbirth, excessive sexual activity and drug use can also cause fatigue. Acute issues of fatigue can usually be bettered by being able to take the time for adequate sleep, napping and a balanced diet. For more severe cases acupuncture is a great alternative to finding the internal balance needed to over come fatigue.

Figuring out where to start an acupuncturist must begin with the symptoms and signs a patient presents with. Besides being tired all other fatigue related symptoms can be linked to an organ system in the body, which helps provide an acupuncturist with forming a diagnosis.

Here is a list of some related symptoms and they're related organs:

Poor appetite, muscle weakness, uncomfortable after eating, loose stools=Spleen

Epigastric pain, dry mouth, dry stools=Stomach

Insomnia, palpitations, dizziness=Heart

Weak voice, shortness of breath, catching colds easily=Lungs

Tinnitus, extreme exhaustion, sore low back and knees=kidneys

Blurred vision, constipation, numbess and tingling, dry skin=Liver

The above symptoms are considered symptoms of deficiency in their related organ systems, this deficiency is predominately why fatigue would be occurring. There are also signs as well that can be seen on the body that can indicate what is going on internally. The look of the tongue is a sign, tongues can range greatly in shape, size, color and can clearly show what is going on in the body.

Here is a simple list of what tongues can say:

Purple body= Blood stagnation

Teeth marks on the sides=Qi deficiency

Swollen body=Dampness

Red body=Heat

Thick white coat=Coldness

Pale tongue=Blood deficiency

Combining the signs and symptoms is the key to figuring out where and what to work on in acupuncture. There are many acupuncture points on the body that can be used for fatigue depending on the diagnosis, but in most cases there are some points that self acupressure can be used on a regular basis in order to help yourself overcome fatigue.

On the inside of the leg about one hand width or 3 inches above the very top of the ankle bone lies a point that can be massaged with acupressure 3 to 5 times a day for a few minutes or until the area becomes red. In some cases this point will be very tender upon touch, so it may be good to start off using light pressure and to massage it daily until the tenderness goes away.

This point is called Spleen 6 or known as Sanyinjiao, it is an intersection of 3 different acupuncture meridians, stimulating this point has effect over the Spleen, Liver and Kidneys. It can help resolve most digestive and reproductive issues as well as improve sleep. Massaging it regularly can help the body find balance.

Although, getting regular acupuncture treatments from a licensed acupuncturist can do can a lot more for fatigue. If you or any one you know suffers from fatigue please contact your local acupuncturist to see what they can do for you. Try Acupressure

Nasal congestion can be very annoying and can take days to clear up especially if you've got it from a bad cold or flu. Your nasal passages become inflamed and lots of mucus can be produced from your body fighting a possible virus.

In acupuncture there is a commonly used point to help open up the nasal passages, stimulating this point with a needle can have a strong effect over the nose and maxillary sinuses, which lie to the sides of the nostrils. This point is commonly known as Large Intestine(LI) 20 or Yingxiang in Chinese, which translates to welcome fragrance. As you can tell by its translation it literally means to be able to smell. This point lies to the side of each nostril in the upper part of the groove of your cheek, just before the groove ends and meets the top of the nostril. Acupressure is a great way to stimulate this point and you don't have to worry about being as accurate as an acupuncturist to make it work.

To stimulate LI 20 use a strong, but tolerable amount of pressure with the tip of the index fingers aiming upwards and toward the top of the nose. You can do one nostril at a time or both at the same time. The more pressure used the stronger the stimulation will be. Press in for about 2 minutes and you should begin feeling a sensation in the area. If the case is severe it may not work right away, so it would be good to do this multiple times a day.

Also, if only one nostril is congested you can lay on your opposite side and press in to the point on the congested side. In other words if your right nostril is congested lay on your left side and apply pressure into the right LI 20 and vice versa for the other side. This may be more helpful for severe cases as well.

There is also another point that can help, this point is more commonly used in pediatric acupressure to help unblock an infants nose. This point is called Yintang, which translates to Seal Hall. It is most commonly used in acupuncture to help people relax, but because of its location it can help with blocked nasal passages as well.

This point lies midway between the medial end of the eyebrows, right above the top of the nose. For infants it is good to apply light pressure with the index finger, stroking the point downward. This can do wonders for congested babies and can really help stuck mucus to flow out. For adults its good to use the the thumb and index finger and massage the area for as long as desired. For some people it is a very relaxing point to have massaged.

Of course seeing an acupuncturist can really help open the nasal passages and help you get over that cold or flu quicker. If you have any comments or questions please leave them below and thank you for visiting Acuthink!

The Healthy Bowel Movement: When all the internal organs are properly functioning and balanced along with a good diet and lifestyle a healthy stool will have the following traits, a few inches long, light brown in color, with a cylinder shape and occurs once, maybe twice a day.

There are so many factors that can lead to constipation, diet being the most important factor. Water and fiber intake are the easiest issues to spot and take care of. If you suffer from dehydration you could be suffering far war worse then constipation. Other symptoms could include abdominal pains, vomiting, nausea, anxiety and possibly kidney issues from not drinking enough water. The average person should drink roughly half their body weight in ounces of water per day. As for fiber intake, men should get 30-40 grams a fiber a day and women 20-25 grams of fiber a day, which typically comes from vegetables, fruits and nuts.

However, eating irregularly, or in a rush can cause you to be backed up too. The human body likes to function like clock work so eating around the same time everyday can help keep you regular. Also, chewing your food well and eating at a comfortable time when you can relax and enjoy the meal helps your body breakdown and digest the food well enough where it can easily move on when its time to go to the bathroom.

Other contributing factors to constipation are high emotional stress, poor exercise habits, over work, childbirth, and high fevers that can dry out body fluids. Each one of these factors can have an impact on the network of internal organs that help bowel movements occur. Any of those factors can cause an imbalance in the organs causing some sort of deficiency or excess. According to chinese medicine there are a few organs that affect bowel movements directly.

Organs and associated stools when out of balance:

Stomach- Constipated with dry stools

Large Intestine- Constipated with wet stools

Spleen-Constipated with long and thin stools

Liver- Constipated with small and round stools

The kidneys and lungs can also be involved, but are usually associated with other chronic issues or with the elderly. It is through proper diagnosing and investigation through diet and lifestyle that an acupuncturist can determine the underlying organ or organs that are out balance. The questioning that occurs when seeing an acupuncturist helps them determine what the best acu points are to use.

Even though there are many points that can be used there are 3 different points on the abdominal area that when stimulated with needles, acupressure or massage can help alleviate constipation. These 3 points affect the stomach, the intestines, the spleen, liver and kidneys, which make for an affective point prescription.

The points are:

Conception Vessel 12 - Improves digestion, by stimulating the Stomach, which affects the Spleen and Liver

Conception Vessel 6 - Improves energy, helps regulate intestines and stimulates the kidneys

Stomach 25- Stimulates and regulates intestines

Self massaging these points upon waking and before going to bed can help these organs balance out. For self massage it is best to use the palm of your hand and make circles around your navel going from right to left. Going from right to left is the direction the large intestine goes in order to have a bowel movement. Doing this massage daily upon waking or before sleeping is a great way to help yourself become more regular. I recommend doing at least 50 circles around the navel, this will not only help bowels, but also increase digestion.
Anemia in both western and eastern medicine is a blood disorder, which millions of people around the world suffer from. It is a condition where the body makes an insufficient or unhealthy amount of red blood cells, leaving the body weak and having multiple symptoms arising from it.

Symptoms and Signs include:

Fatigue

Light Headedness

Blurred Vision

Trouble Breathing

Palpitations

Dizziness

Cold Limbs

Pale Lips and Tongue

Dry Skin

Poor Appetite

Anemia in a western sense can come from a number of causes including poor mineral and vitamin intake, excessive bleeding from an injury, disease or heavy periods as well as genetic disorders. Certain medications if taken in excess can also cause internal bleeding that can lead to anemia. Pregnancy is another cause, which can go away after childbirth and is considered normal.

In chinese medicine Anemia is considered a deficiency that can come from a number of internal imbalances that have to do with the internal organs that help control and create blood.

Those organs being:

Heart- Helps manufacture and control blood circulation

Spleen-Helps manufacture blood through the break down of food

Liver- Stores, cleanses and helps transport blood through out the body

Kidneys- Have a strong influence over the menstrual cycle and pregnancy

A deficiency or a combination of deficiencies can arise from one or more of these internal organs, causing a cascade of symptoms to occur. An acupuncturist can decipher where the root of the imbalance is taken place by attributing symptoms to their corresponding organs.

Here is an example:

Poor appetite = Spleen

Frequent Urination = Kidneys

Palpitations = Heart

Poor Vision = Liver

Every organ controls certain bodily functions and they are all internally connected to each other, when an imbalance occurs it can be traced back to its corresponding organ. These organ systems have internal and external branches(meridians) that intimately connect the whole body. An acupuncturist manipulates and stimulates the external meridians of the organs in order to help them create balance in the system internally.

If anemia was caused by both an imbalance in the Liver and Spleen organs it would mean points on those organ meridians would have to be stimulated to help those organs function better. Stimulating those meridians would improve blood circulation throughout, improve food breakdown, better nutrient assimilation in the body, improve appetite and vision while helping resolve anemia.

If you or anyone you know suffers from anemia acupuncture from a fully licensed acupuncturist can locate the root of the imbalance and help the body recover from anemia.

A bunion is a red swollen area of tissue located over a joint, which can be painful and can get worse over time. The joint that is mainly affected by bunions is on the big toe and may be a precursor to suffering from gout. According to western medicine bunions mainly occur from wearing tight fitting shoes that put to much pressure against the joints of the toe, which irritates the tissue and causes it to protrude outward.

Other causes of bunions can be attributed to:

Birth deformities

Structural Inheritance

Arthritis

Occupation that puts a lot of stress on feet

According to chinese medicine there are branches and there are roots, in other words symptoms and their root cause. In this case the bunion is the symptom, which is made worse from tight fitting shoes. The original root cause is indicated by its location on the body. The outside of the big toe joint is part of the spleen meridian and organ system, which means there is a direct correlation to the formation of the bunion and the spleen.

In chinese medicine the spleen is part of the digestive system, its role mainly helps transform and transport nutrients through out the body after the stomach breaks down food. This transportation and transformation helps the body assimilate food into energy(qi) and blood for the body. If the spleen is weak, symptoms like anemia, fatigue and lack of appetite can occur. Bunions can be seen as another sign of a weakened spleen showing as a poor sign of transportation occurring in the body, in fact it is a sign of accumulation of dampness.

Diet is a major factor over the spleens ability to transform and transport, it likes warm and dry foods, foods that are too dampening and cold can weaken it. Sugar and dairy are probably the biggest culprits that weaken the spleen, they are very dampening. Bunions, in most cases, are originally caused by to too much sugar consumption and are nicknamed sugar hills. Reducing or eliminating sugar from ones diet can greatly reduce the discomfort and underlying cause of bunions.

When it comes to acupuncture the way to get rid of a bunion is basically to warm it, drying up the build up of dampness. Also, invigorating qi and blood flow to the area and through out the spleen meridian to move the accumulation and help the spleen organ strengthen its ability to transform and transport nutrients through out the body and to dissolve any built up accumulations.

Heat therapy and acupuncture needles are used locally over and around the bunion, along with points that can address the underlying cause, which is usually from a weakened spleen. Although, bunions can be stubborn and take time to go away acupuncture is a safe and effective treatment, which is usually better then the alternative to having surgery, which doesn't address any underlying causes.

So in general when it comes to bunions, its good to find a comfortable pair of shoes that won't aggravate them and also consider paying closer attention to your diet, reducing sugar and dairy consumption. If sugar and dairy aren't really part of your diet, you might want to consider getting acupuncture to help boost your digestive system and to discuss with your acupuncturist what part of your diet could be causing the bunion.

Gout is a form of arthritis and appears as a red inflamed bump over a joint, which causes very sharp pain. It is considered to be one of the most painful diseases and it usually wakes people up in the middle of the night in excruciating pain. Pain so bad that artist James Gillray in the year 1799 painted how painful it can be by depicting a little demon biting a foot!

Gout is strictly a diet related issue and was once known as the disease of kings, because at one point in history it was only royalty who could afford to eat rich foods on a regular basis. Rich foods being considered mostly as smoked meats and alcohol. Now in todays conventional world those rich foods are cheap and in abundance for anyone that wants it, because of this gout is making a come back.

Purines are the reason why gout occurs and hurts so much, all foods have some amount of purines in them, but some have very high levels of them. Purines are natural to the body and are broken down to create uric acid, which is actually a helpful antioxidant. Although when to many purines are broken down, then a lot of uric acid is made, which can lead to uric acid crystals. These crystals build up and create painful gout usually in a specific joint on the body.

The following list of foods are high in purines and should not be eaten in excess on a regular basis to avoid getting gout:

Beer, hard liquor

Meats(bacon, ham, pork)

Organ Meats (kidneys, liver)

Dried Beans (kidney, navy)

Oily fish (anchovies, sardines)

According to chinese acupuncture theory, the place where gout appears on the body also tells what internal organ or organs is suffering the most from the diet.

More times then not gout appears on the outside of the joint of the big toe, this area is more affected by gout then any other joint on the body. This area is affected the most because it is directly connected to the spleen organ system, which in chinese medicine helps digestion. It also helps all other digestive organs that breakdown food for the rest of the body and it is very susceptible to dampness or foods that can really weigh down the system.

So when it comes to treating gout with acupuncture, you look at the related organ system that is being affected and the main issue, which is severe sharp pain. Sharp pain in chinese medicine literally indicates blood stagnation. So the treatment for gout would be two parts.

1. Strongly moving blood out of the affected joint, which would have to be done by bloodletting the area on or around the gout. This is typically done by taking a lancet and quickly pricking an acupuncture point located next to the gout letting out a handful of drops of blood. This technique can be done multiple times and has been shown to offer a lot of relief for those who suffer from gout.

2. Boosting the digestive system would have to be done to help the body breakdown left over uric acid. This would be done by selecting specific acupuncture points and stimulating them with acupuncture needles and or heat therapy. Also, a permanet change in diet would be recommended by the acupuncturist to avoid getting gout again in the future.

So prevention is always best, and eating more veggies then meats can keep the body healthy and less prone to disease like gout. I hope this article has been informative and if you have any comments or questions please them below and thank you for visiting Acuthink today!

Acupuncture for Bell's Palsy has a high success rate especially when treatment is sought as soon as possible. Bell's Palsy is a sudden inflammation of the 7th cranial nerve that is typically caused by sleeping with your face near an open window. While asleep the body's defense mechanism isn't as strong and exposure to cold air, which typically causes a cold invades the body and causes more damage then it usually would.

The most common symptoms of bell's palsy are as follows:

Paralysis, weakness or numbness of one or both sides of the face

Difficulty speaking, drooling

Dry eyes or constant tearing of the affected eye

Loss of taste

Pain around the ear

When treating bell's palsy there are three factors that have to be addressed:

Expelling the pathogenic factor (cold virus)

Stimulating qi and blood flow to effected parts of the face

Boosting the immune system to reinforce the first two factors

In acupuncture it is good to treat not only the affected area directly, but as well as distal points on the hands and legs that are internally connected to the face. The back of the neck and shoulders also hold some great points to help expel pathogenic factors and increase blood flow to the face.

There could be up to 2 dozen acupuncture points on the face that can be used to treat bells palsy, which are also good to stimulate with acupressure. Stimulating the points for up to a count of 100 a few times a day is a good way to bring blood to the face. Here are a hand full of some of the best points to stimulate on the face and their other uses besides for bell's palsy. Check out the above picture to see where they're located.

GallBladder 14 - Frontal Headaches

Stomach 2 - Any Eye Problems

Stomach 4 - Facial Pain, Trouble Eating

Governing Vessel 26 - Brings energy to face, good for driving late at night.

Triple Burner 23 - Eye swelling and pain

Usually for bell's palsy it takes 2 treatments a week for about 5 weeks to bring the face back to a normal state depending on how soon treatment was sought. The more time that passes, the more difficult it is to really revive the facial muscles to go back to normal, so doing self acupressure is a great way to help heal the face.

Tip: Strengthening your grip by using a grip exerciser is a great way of relieving elbow pain. Doing this type of exercise promotes blood flow and strengthens forearm muscles that help alleviate the pain.

What is tennis or golfer's elbow? They are basically the same issue only on different parts of the elbow. Tennis elbow is considered lateral epicondylitis, which is inflammation of the tendons connecting to the outside part of the elbow. Golfer's elbow is medial epicondylitis, which is inflammation of the tendons connecting to the inside of your elbow. They are both painful and can cause loss of motion in the arm.

What causes the inflammation? Of course playing tennis or golf will cause the inflammation creating the debilitating pain. Anytime there is over use or misuse this type of pain can be caused, even the pizza man down the street can get it from flipping pizza all day long every day.

In the eyes of an acupuncturist this painful inflammation is considered a blockage of energy in one or more energy meridians that pass through the elbow. There are 6 meridians that pass through the elbow, they are:

Large Intestine

Lung

Pericardium

Heart

Small Intestine

Triple Burner

When it comes to Tennis elbow the Large Intestine and Lung meridians are mostly effected and with Golfer's its the Heart and Small Intestine meridians that are effected. Taking into account the effected meridians an acupuncturist will choose local acupuncture points that lie on the elbow to stimulate in order to break the painful blockage. Using local points along with distal points on the forearm or leg will help move the fluctuation of energy movement in the body that connect to the elbow.

There are other modalities that can be used to help as well, like Guasha. Guasha is a type of massage done usually with a smooth porcelain tool that is done over or near painful areas of the body that help break up knots and blockages while promoting blood flow to the area. Doing guasha in conjunction with acupuncture can be especially beneficial to elbow pain.

Acute cases are obviously much easier to help, but chronic cases can take much longer then desired to get better. So if you or any one you know suffers from tennis or golfer's elbow get them to an acupuncturist as soon as you can.

After one treatment of acupuncture for Plantar Fasciitis relief is very commonly felt, although it may take more then one treatment for the pain to full go away, especially if there is an underlying chronic issue in the body. This type of heel pain is very common especially in those who run or walk a lot. It can become a very discouraging pain to athletes or to those just trying to get in better shape.

Plantar Fasciitis is inflammation of a ligament on the bottom of the foot that connects the bottom of your heel bone to your toes. Its a support structure for your foot and really for the rest of your body and over use can cause it to strain and therefore tear, inflaming the area.

When it comes to acupuncture the whole body and any other issues, mental and physical issues are taken into account before treatment. For women with plantar fasciitis it's common to see an underlying blood deficiency in the body because of the menstrual cycle, during menses the foot pain can typically become worse. Blood deficiency would be the original root cause to having weaker ligaments, leaving them to be more prone to inflammation caused by exercise or just standing and sitting too long. This root cause is usually addressed at the same time and treated along with the main issue at hand, in this case being foot pain.

Although, regardless of an underlying root cause combining acupuncture with electric stimulation and or heat therapy can do wonders for heel pain. The foot itself in Chinese Medicine is governed by the kidneys and the kidney meridian. Therefore needling points on the kidney meridian on the foot and related points on the body can do wonders for the pain and speeding up recovery.

Besides acupuncture points on the foot, there should be tender points in the area too, these tender points are considered blockages in the foots energetic fluctuation. These blockages are very important to break and are therefore needled along with the regular acupuncture points. After needling is done the needles are typically then stimulated further manually or with electric stimulation and possibly heat therapy that will be placed on or under the foot.

Heat therapy usually comes in the form of moxa or a heat lamp that would be placed under the foot facing the painful area. The combination of needles, electricity and heat help the body release endorphins to cope with pain and increase blood circulation to the area to speed up recovery.

If you or anyone you know suffers from heel pain acupuncture is a great alternative to not only relieve the pain, but to treat any underlying deficiencies that may be causing the discomfort. What is Moxabustion?

Moxa, for short, is a form of heat therapy usually used in conjunction with acupuncture. Although, on its own it can be a very useful and powerful medicinal tool. It is an age old form of medicine that goes back into ancient chinese folklore where it is said that burning it over a specific point (stomach 36) on the body daily will help someone live to 100 yrs old.

Moxa is a dried out and compressed form of a plant called Mugwort (Folium Artemisiae), it comes in two different forms, either a spongy material that can be easily manipulated or into a more commonly used charcoal stick form. Both types are used to strengthen the body by burning it on or over areas of the body, usually over specific acupuncture points.

When burned therapeutic oils get released, which the body absorbs and the combination of heat and oil are used mainly to treat :

Cold conditions(poor circulation)

Stagnation Conditions(painful areas)

Reduce Swelling

Disperse or Dry Up Excess Fluids

Increase Circulation

Strengthen Organ Function

The oil it releases is also considered an emmenagogue, which means it helps ease and improve menstrual flow, for such issues such as:

Amenorrhea

Dysmenorrhea

Leucorrhea

It has such a powerful effect over the menstrual cycle that for centuries it has also been used for turning a breeched baby. Burning moxa over the side of the little toe 3 times a day for 5-15 minutes around the middle of the 3rd trimester will assist a baby in turning in the right direction for labour.

Moxa is also considered an external form of Qi(energy) that when used appropriately gives the body a boost, because of this it greatly complements acupuncture treatments. Most acupuncturists use it in their practice, but you don't have to be an acupuncturist to use it on yourself, although there are contraindications for its use. If you plan on using moxa on your own please consult an acupuncturist first.

Tinnitus or ringing in the ears is one of lifes little annoyances for some people it comes and goes and for others its there constantly. It makes hearing difficult and can get worse over time and the longer its been around the harder it is to treat. Ringing in the ears can be caused by a number of issues, which can range from having anxiety or to common lifestyle choices.

According to Chinese medicine all organ systems in the body can have some effect on the ears such as the heart, lungs, gallbladder and liver, but the organ that is most associated with the ears are the kidneys. The kidneys also provide the body's fundamental energy that carries us through life. If the kidneys become deficient many things can occur such as chronic fatigue, being constantly cold, excessive urination, asthma, knee pain, low back pain and of course low pitched ringing in the ears. High pitched ringing is more closely associated to the Liver/Gallbladder organs and stress/anxiety.

The following is a list of some things that can cause kidney deficiency:

Overwork- Drains the kidneys energy

Aging- Natural kidney energy loss

Poor Diet- Too much dairy or greasy foods can weigh down the body's energy

Excessive sexual activity- Drains the kidneys energy

Besides the kidneys and the functioning of other organs in the body, another issue that can commonly occur to cause ringing in the ears is something called phlegm. Phlegm is an obstruction that can build up in the head and not only cause ringing in the ears, but also can cause

Acupuncture is an ancient medical practice that dates back for at least 2,000 years and is evolving into modern mainstream medicine all over the world. Acupuncture is a method of reinforcing the body's own innate healing abilities using very fine, single use and sterile needles in specific points all over the body.

There are at least 400 acupuncture points on the body that have been recognized to have specific effects throughout. These points lie on specific pathways that intertwine connecting the body internally and externally. Scientific research has shown that stimulating these points stimulates the central nervous system which:

Increases blood and body fluid circulation

Releases good feeling neurotransmitters like serotonin

Releases healing hormones like the human growth hormone.

In a more ancient and traditional sense acupuncture is a method of manipulation and stimulation of the body's energy, when there is pain, discomfort, congestion, constipation, fatigue, headaches etc., these things count as a sign of either stagnation, an excess or a deficiency. Stimulating specific points along the body causes the body to regulate itself.

If there is pain(stagnation), which is also considered a blockage in the system, acupuncture forces that blockage to be broken causing energy to move alleviating pain. If there is an excess condition like edema, acupuncture will help the body to absorb and redistribute the fluids in a healthier manner. Same goes for a deficiency like a poor appetite and loose stools, manipulating digestive points can improve appetite and regulate stools to be more solid.

The Theory of how acupuncture works is based on how the internal organs work in conjunction with the rest of the body and the pathways that connect them all together, there are 14 major external pathways that are typically used for needle stimulation. There are also two forms of commonly practiced acupuncture, Chinese and Japanese, that can be combined depending on the practitioners training. The two styles differ mostly in their needling techniques, point locations and diagnosis methods.

Acupuncture can be used to treat all issues, since it is based on how the body works, although acupuncturists can not say that they can cure things, but they can help the body heal faster then it can on its own. Acute issues are the most easily treatable, chronic issues need more time, but when coupled with a healthy lifestyle acupuncture works even better.

A typical acupuncture treatment may last up to one hour, acupuncturists also use other therapeutic tools to go along with the needles such as:

Heat Therapy

Tuina(Chinese Massage)

Cupping

Electrical Stimulation

Acupuncture is a method of therapy that builds a upon itself, boosting the system and breaking blockages as treatments progress. The number of treatments needed usually depends on the issue and its severity. One session of acupuncture is considered to be 10 treatments, although acute issues may need only 1 treatment, but 10 may be needed for full recovery. Chronic issues may need one whole session before positive changes start to take hold.

The effectiveness of acupuncture is constantly being researched and so far the World Health Organization has credited acupuncture with being good for at least 28 different issues. Click the following link to find out what they are: http://apps.who.int/medicinedocs/en/d/Js4926e/5.html

Warning: It is best to receive acupuncture from a Licensed Acupuncturist who spent years in school studying the art of acupuncture and receiving hundreds of hours of clinical practice. There are massage therapists, physical therapists and MD's that have only received a certificate in acupuncture with only a few weekends of training or less. This inadequate amount of training time does not provide a patient with an actual acupuncture treatment and can potentially be dangerous to a patient. Inserting acupuncture needles into a persons body is a serious thing and harm can be done if there isn't enough prior training. Please be sure to ask about your acupuncturists training before you go for a treatment.

When you think of side effects, negative thoughts usually come to mind, however when it comes to acupuncture the side effects are positive and even more positive in the long run. Unlike medications that are potent chemicals that alter the bodies chemistry, acupuncture theory is based on how the body itself works. So acupuncture doesn't introduce anything new into the system, it rather stimulates what is already there, boosting the body do what it already does best, which is heal itself.

Acupuncture is technically a manipulation of the body's own energy, a manipulation that is tailored to a certain area of the body, which stimulates the energy causing it to be stronger then without it being stimulated. Other therapies like massage are similar, except that acupuncture can literally get right to the point and have a deeper affect.

When it comes to the negative side effects of acupuncture one has to understand that this energy manipulation is made to find balance, due to this, things can be stirred up. Possibly causing the main issue at hand to be aggravated, temporarily, until it can become better. Acupuncture can make the body kick things out of itself faster then it would on its own. Things like more fatigue can be experienced, even coughing and more mucus production, but in the long run these negative side effects just don't last. Also, the occasional bruise may occur from the needling, which is rare but does happen sometimes.

As for the positive side effects of acupuncture, which is the total opposite of the pharmaceutical commercials on tv, they can be pleasantly surprising. When balance starts to occur, which is different for everyone and comes at different times for everyone. The effects of regular acupuncture treatments are better quality of life concerning the reason why you went to try acupuncture in the first place. Also, what usually occurs is :

Improved Sleep Quality

Better Energy Levels

Stronger Digestive System

Stronger Immune System

Easier to Handle Stress

Although, one of the most oddest positive side effects of acupuncture is a heightened level awareness of your own body and well being. Having regular acupuncture treatments makes you notice things that you may not have noticed before. A some what deeper connection that gives you more insight into how your body reacts to foods, the environment, activities and life in general.

So before reaching for that pharmaceutical drug, give acupuncture a try, its side effects are more pleasant.

Neck pain can be very debilitating, besides being painful and uncomfortable it can restrict range of motion, cause headaches, reduce quality of sleep and even cause numbness down the arms into the hands. Depending on the severity of the issue, which includes the quality of pain(sharp or a dull ache) and how long its been around, acupuncture can be very effective.

There are many good local and distal acupuncture points that can be stimulated to break up blockages and increase blood flow to the area, which reduces pain and promotes healing. Most neck pain arises from an issue with the spinal vertebra, which if herniated can make the surrounding tissue inflamed causing lots of pain.

Acupuncture points when stimulated not only can increase blood flow to the area removing blockages, but the brain will release chemicals like hormones and neurotransmitters that can ease pain and promote more healing to the area. Even if a spinal disk is herniated, acupuncture can still allow the body to overcome the pain associated with it.

Most acupuncture points for neck pain would be local, surrounding the exact area of discomfort, but there are also distal points for neck pain that you wouldn't normally think of like on the hand and foot. Depending on the exact issue at hand different points will be chosen, but a great distal point in general for neck pain lies on the outside of the foot called Shugu in Chinese or more commonly known as Urinary Bladder 65. This point is on the Urinary bladder channel which connects and covers the whole back of the body from head to toe, literally.

Stimulating this distal point for the neck can help manipulate the entire urinary bladder channel, and when coupled with local points the discomfort in the area can literally be pushed out of the way, like a strong river breaking a damn.

When it comes to acupuncture there are multiple ways to tackle an issue, usually using local points combined with further away distal points that are associated with the main issue. So don't be surprised when getting acupuncture that the practitioner will use points some where, where you might not expect.

Knee Pain is very common and it can come in many forms from arthritis in the joint to a torn meniscus and acupuncture is growing as a recognized method of helping the knee heal. In general acupuncture boosts the body's ability to heal itself as opposed to medications or cortisone shots that only mask pain and reduce inflammation, which is needed to heal.

Its also much less invasive then surgery, which is sometimes called for issues that have been around for years and have just gotten worse over time. Acupuncture is best for prevention and because of its ability to give the body a natural boost, it works really well for acute issues. The longer something has been around, the harder it is to treat, but acupuncture can also help manage chronic conditions.

For knee pain specifically it's good to use acupuncture with electrical stimulation, which is hooking up the needles to electrodes that stimulate the points for a certain amount of time. This constant stimulation is great for reducing pain and moving local stagnation in an affected meridian. These meridians lie all around the knee and connect to other points all over the body.

There are 6 meridians that can be affected when it comes to knee pain, depending on the issue just a couple or all the meridians may be treated to fully heal the knee. The meridian that is most affected will be treated the most to remove the pain/blockage from the meridian. The needles are typically placed in local points in and around the knee joint along with distal points in the foot that are associated with the issue.

For example if there is a tear in the medial meniscus in the knee joint, the most points used would be placed on the Spleen, Liver and Kidney meridians that pass through the medial side of the knee. Electrical Stimulation would then be placed on two or more needles along one of these meridians, most likely the Spleen meridian. Doing this helps stimulate the area for a faster recovery and reducing pain at the same time.

The electricity used is always low and left at a strong, but comfortable level of stimulation for the patient being treated. It feels like a constant muscle twitch that invigorates the area with better blood circulation.

So if you or any one you know has knee pain, acupuncture is a safe and effective way to boost the healing process. I hope you've enjoyed this article, come back to Acuthink for more articles on how acupuncture can help you.

Acupuncture is great for regulating the menstrual cycle weather having no period at all or having a heavy one with big blood clots. There are many factors that go into diagnosing the cause of menstrual issues, but there are common organs and meridians that are associated with it. The Spleen, Kidneys and Liver being the most influential over the cycle.

When it comes to a heavy menstrual period the loss of blood can really take a toll on a woman's body causing multiple issues including anemia, which can cause even more health issues over time. There are also multiple uncomfortable symptoms that come with a period, heavy or not, those being the following:

Bloating

Gassy

Cramps

Blood clots

Fatigue

Emotional issues

Acupuncture is a therapy that uses precise points on the body that stimulate the internal organs in order to promote balance through out. A healthy menstrual cycle has very little discomfort, with medium blood flow and no or very little blood clots.

There are two points specifically that connect two organ systems together, which have a very strong effect over the uterus and the menstrual cycle in general. The points Pericardium 6 and Spleen 4, by themselves they are very powerful, but together they specifically target the menstrual cycle helping alleviating all of the above symptoms. Regulating a heavy period can not only reduce uncomfortable symptoms, but can reduce iron loss greatly helping prevent or overcome certain types of anemia.

In another article I specifically wrote about the point Pericardium 6 and what it can do on its own, here I will point out what Spleen 4 can do on its own, which is:

Strengthens Digestion

Reduces Abdominal Pain

Main Point for Gynecological Masses

Regulates Menstruation

Calming Effect Over Emotions

This point can be located on the medial/inside of the foot about an inch away from the first metatarsal bone(above the big toe) of the foot towards the ankle bone. Checkout the above diagram. For doing acupressure on it locate the most tender point, in the area, and massage it for ten minutes twice a day till the tenderness goes away. This will help alleviate uncomfortable menstrual issues.

If you or anyone you know suffers from a heavy menstrual cycle, acupuncture is a great SIDE EFFECT FREE way of regulating it. Thanks for checking out Acuthink and please leave any comments or questions.
