Acupuncture For Anxiety

How can sticking tiny hair thin sterile needles into the body help with anxiety? It first starts with a proper diagnosis; there are multiple patterns that can be diagnosed coming from imbalances from the heart, lungs, liver, spleen and kidneys. To be diagnosed with anxiety an individual has to have uncontrollable worry that disrupts their every day lives. Also, in a 6-month period, this worry has to be present more days then not along with other symptoms.

Common symptoms are:
·      Constant Worry
·      Muscle tension
·      Nausea
·      Sweating
·      Irritability
·      Insomnia
·      Clammy hands
·      Jumpiness
·      GI discomfort
·      Fear
·      Mental Restlessness
·      Chest Tightness
·      Feeling of a lump in the throat
·      Palpitations

These symptoms plus more can be attributed to an imbalance of excess or deficient conditions in one or in a combination of any of the above organs. All the organs not only have their own physical functions, but also mental emotional ones too. The organs themselves have pathways that extend out into and all over the body. When an imbalance is present a blockage will occur in a pathway producing a symptom.

Along the external pathways of the organs lie multiple acupuncture points that correlate to the different functions of the organs. When these points are manipulated with acupuncture needles they create a release of various hormones and endogenous opioids that create a relaxing and healing effect over injured parts of the body.

In general anxiety can be treated with acupuncture within 20 treatments, with occasional follow up treatments, but everyone is different. Other factors have to be taken into consideration like diet, exercise and other lifestyle circumstances.  The best thing about acupuncture is that the side effects are positive ones, which can really benefit the multiple symptoms that accompany anxiety.

If you or any one you know suffers from anxiety please consider trying acupuncture, anxiety doesn’t have to be a lifelong struggle; alternative care is always a good option to consider. I hope this has been an interesting read for you and I hope you have a wonderful day. Please leave any comments or suggestions. Thank you!
