Acupuncture For Smoking Cessation

Did you know: Your skin is considered the third lobe of your lungs so what ever affects the lungs has a direct affect on the skin, thats why a lot of smokers look like they age quicker then others. Also, the skin may not be able to breathe like the lungs, but it does absorb oxygen from the outside.

Cigarettes are more addictive today then ever before, not only are they made to become addictive, but they are a perfect drug. They stimulate and calm the mind at the same time, which is a perfect combo that people feel they need.

Everybody knows cigarettes are bad for you, but not that many people realize how bad they actually are for you or what's really in them. There are 599 additives in a cigarette, here is a small list of some of the worst ingredients in them:

  1. Ammonia = Cleaner
  2. Arsenic =Rat poison
  3. Butane = Gas
  4. Carbon Monoxide = Poison Gas
  5. Cadmium = Ingredient in Batteries
  6. Cyanide = Poison
  7. DDT =  Banned Insecticide
  8. Ethyl Furoate = Causes Liver Damage
  9. Formaldehyde = Good for preserving dead animals
  10. Methoprene = Insecticide
  11. Maltitol = Sweetener for Diabetics
  12. Polonium = Cancer Causing
These ingredients have harmful effects on every organ in the body creating a severe imbalance, which leave smokers more prone to infections, colds, flu and slows down healing time in general.

Fortunately acupuncture exists and is a time tested therapy that stimulates the body's innate healing system to find optimal balance within the body. When it comes to Smoking cessation Chinese medicine has developed a protocal used to treat addiction specifically, it is called the NADA(The National Acupuncture Detoxification Association) Protocal and is used in Acupuncture Clinics around the world to treat all kinds of addiction. The NADA protocal is made up of 5 points that are placed in each ear.  These points along with body points can help curb cravings and rejuvenate the body from all the harm done by smoking.

The combination of these points in the ear help stimulate and balance the sympathetic and parasympathic nervous systems, relieve stress, anxiety, and boost circulation to the organs that are most affected by addiction and toxic substances.

When it comes to Smoking cessation, acupuncture is recommended for at least 7 weeks of treatment 2- to 3 times a week to help curb cravings and really clean out the body from the huge amounts of the toxic substances found in cigarettes. The NADA protocal can also be used to treat any addiction including alcohol and drug abuse.

I hope this has been an informative article for you and if you know anyone that is struggling with trying to quit smoking or is thinking about it, acupuncture is safe, effective and has many positive side effects to it. It's a great therapy to consider and can make life easier in so many ways.
