Acupuncture For Heavy Menstruation

Acupuncture is great for regulating the menstrual cycle weather having no period at all or having a heavy one with big blood clots. There are many factors that go into diagnosing the cause of menstrual issues, but there are common organs and meridians that are associated with it. The Spleen, Kidneys and Liver being the most influential over the cycle.

When it comes to a heavy menstrual period the loss of blood can really take a toll on a woman's body causing multiple issues including anemia, which can cause even more health issues over time. There are also multiple uncomfortable symptoms that come with a period, heavy or not, those being the following:
  1. Bloating
  2. Gassy
  3. Cramps
  4. Blood clots
  5. Fatigue
  6. Emotional issues
Acupuncture is a therapy that uses precise points on the body that stimulate the internal organs in order to promote balance through out.  A healthy menstrual cycle has very little discomfort, with medium blood flow and no or very little blood clots.

There are two points specifically that connect two organ systems together, which have a very strong effect over the uterus and the menstrual cycle in general.  The points Pericardium 6 and Spleen 4, by themselves they are very powerful, but together they specifically target the menstrual cycle helping alleviating all of the above symptoms. Regulating a heavy period can not only reduce uncomfortable symptoms, but can reduce iron loss greatly helping prevent or overcome certain types of anemia.

In another article I specifically wrote about the point Pericardium 6 and what it can do on its own, here I will point out what Spleen 4 can do on its own, which is:

  1. Strengthens Digestion
  2. Reduces Abdominal Pain
  3. Main Point for Gynecological Masses
  4. Regulates Menstruation
  5. Calming Effect Over Emotions

This point can be located on the medial/inside of the foot about an inch away from the first metatarsal bone(above the big toe) of the foot towards the ankle bone. Checkout the above diagram.  For doing acupressure on it locate the most tender point, in the area, and massage it for ten minutes twice a day till the tenderness goes away. This will help alleviate uncomfortable menstrual issues.

If you or anyone you know suffers from a heavy menstrual cycle, acupuncture is a great SIDE EFFECT FREE way of regulating it. Thanks for checking out Acuthink and please leave any comments or questions.
