Acupuncture For Neck Pain

Neck pain can be very debilitating, besides being painful and uncomfortable it can restrict range of motion, cause headaches,  reduce quality of sleep and even cause numbness down the arms into the hands. Depending on the severity of the issue, which includes the quality of pain(sharp or a dull ache) and how long its been around, acupuncture can be very effective.

There are many good local and distal acupuncture points that can be stimulated to break up blockages and increase blood flow to the area, which reduces pain and promotes healing. Most neck pain arises from an issue with the spinal vertebra, which if herniated can make the surrounding tissue inflamed causing lots of pain.

Acupuncture points when stimulated not only can increase blood flow to the area removing blockages, but the brain will release chemicals like hormones and neurotransmitters that can ease pain and promote more healing to the area. Even if a spinal disk is herniated, acupuncture can still allow the body to overcome the pain associated with it.

Most acupuncture points for neck pain would be local, surrounding the exact area of discomfort, but there are also distal points for neck pain that you wouldn't normally think of like on the hand and foot. Depending on the exact issue at hand different points will be chosen, but a great distal point in general for neck pain lies on the outside of the foot called Shugu in Chinese or more commonly known as Urinary Bladder 65. This point is on the Urinary bladder channel which connects and covers the whole back of the body from head to toe, literally.

Stimulating this distal point for the neck can help manipulate the entire urinary bladder channel, and when coupled with local points the discomfort in the area can literally be pushed out of the way, like a strong river breaking a damn.

When it comes to acupuncture there are multiple ways to tackle an issue, usually using local points combined with further away distal points that are associated with the main issue. So don't be surprised when getting acupuncture that the practitioner will use points some where, where you might not expect.

  5. Acupuncture has been an age-old tradition for alternative cures for pains and sickness. Of course it is still better to consult with a physician beforehand, and make sure you go to a trusted acupuncturist to get proper treatments for your neck pain.

  9. Acupressure and herbal medicine are sometimes used in conjunction with acupuncture for neck pain. Applying acupressure to the neck muscles can reduce spasm and lessen pain, leading to a relaxed state and a heightened sense of well-being.

  10. Acupuncture massage tightens your skin. This is mainly because of stimulated circulation. You’re also “training” your face to go a certain way; which is usually opposite the way gravity wants to take it.
