7 Natural Ways to Reduce and Improve Tooth and Gum Pain

When it comes to our teeth besides making sure they're clean on a daily basis we don't really give them a second thought until there is a problem. Problems can vary from minor toothaches to huge abscesses under the teeth. Besides brushing, flossing and going to the dentist here is a list of the natural things you can have to help alleviate tooth and gum pain along with reversing gum disease and strengthening teeth.

1. Eat more Mango and Pomegranate
In his book Healing Spices, by Bharat Aggarwal, PHD  mango and pomegranate fruit show healing effects on our gums. Mangos contain an antioxidant in them called mangiferin that show reduction on preiodontal disease and slowed the rate of bone loss. The same goes for pomegranates, in a Brazilian study researchers used pomegranate mouth wash that showed reduction in dental plaque greater then commercial mouthwashes. In Thailand researchers used pomegranate extract on gum disease, which lessened gum erosion and plaque and even reduced fungal infections on those who wore dentures.

2. Clove, Peppermint, Spearmint, Cinnamon, Neem and or Myrrh spices
Use toothpaste that contains one or more of the above for long term care. You could also use the essential oil versions of these directly in the mouth, but you have to becareful because they could potentially be hazardous to you. Overall they are antibacterial, antiseptic and antifungal powerhouses that are great for gum issues, but they can also burn the inside of your mouth or be toxic like spearmint if swallowed. So take caution before using them as essential oils.

3. Ground Clove
Ground Clove is my go to emergency spice if I have a toothache, it contains a mild anesthetic, kills bad bacteria, which is good to fight off a tooth abscess and it also freshens breath in one shot.

4. GIN
In case of severe pain, this next natural item helped me, Gin. Yes, you must be 21years old to obtain it, but all you need is less then one shot and then keep in your mouth over the infected tooth or gum. Its only good to do if you are in severe pain, the gin will soak in the gums killing bad bacteria and slowly reduce the pain. Gin is usually made from natural plants like juniper, which also holds medicinal properties in them.

5. Saliva
Clean your teeth with your own saliva. You read that right, it may even do a better job of cleaning your teeth then flossing. After you eat or when ever you have a few minutes its good to start swishing around your own saliva, which has been shown to have antibacterial, antiviral and analgesic properties. Its also the first step in digestion, the enzymes in your saliva break down food so your stomach has an easier job to do, thats why its good to always chew well.

6. Oil Pull
A technique that can involve any type of food grade organic oil, usually coconut, which involves taking a teaspoon of oil and slowly swishing it in your mouth. Swish for about 20 minutes at least 1 hour after eating, then spitting and rinsing your mouth out. This technique is used to pull out bad bacteria that maybe causing abscesses or other infections to occur in the body, its also used to help whiten teeth and get rid of bad breath.

7. Diatomaceous Earth
Drinking or taking food grade organic Diatomaceous Earth (DE) is one of those compounds that hardly anyone knows about and it can do multiple things for you. It has high amounts of trace minerals especially silica, which is essential to our teeth and over all health. People use it on a daily basis to help re-mineralize teeth and bones, helps the body over come infections, regulates blood pressure and cleanses the body of parasites. It also can increase energy so if you take it, don't take it at night, I also found the powder form only mixes well with juice.

I thank you for checking out this article and to please do your own research before trying any of the above. Please leave any comments or questions below.

  1. It is very essential to maintain a good oral hygiene through natural ways. But it is equally important to visit a dentist as this will help in curing any dental problems at an early stage rather than it getting worse and costly. I got a tooth pulled out from dentist Mumbai. Only if i knew the reason of tooth decay before maybe i wouldn't have had to get it pulled out. However am glad about it thinking of all the agony i had to go through because of it.

  2. A very close friend of mine has been suffering from Otitis media for last 2 days and has a severe ear ache. I took him to doctor and he prescribed some medicine named Augmentin625mg and Flogin but this did not help a lot. Finally i took him to remedial massage therapist who gave him some massage and noww he is sleeping sound.
