Acupuncture sees COPD as a respiratory disease as well, but being chronic it affects other organ systems as well, like the kidneys. The lungs and kidneys typically work in unison together, the kidneys inhale and the lungs exhale. When one system is affected especially after a long time the other system will be affected as well.
Thankfully there are plenty of acupuncture points on the body that can not only help relieve symptoms of COPD, but help over come the underlying root cause. There are two points that can be manually stimulated on a regular basis that may help improve COPD symptoms over time.
These points are connected to the deepest parts of the meridian pathways in the body and are great for COPD, they are lung 7, which lies on the wrist and Kidney 6, which is on the inside of the ankle.
When used together these points strengthen any underlying lung and kidney deficiencies, opening airways and restoring optimal function to the lungs. Separately they can be used for other lung or kidney issues, below is a list of issues these points can be used for and their locations:
Lung 7: In a depression 1.5 thumb widths below the wrist crease, lateral to the styloid process below the thumb.
- Nasal Congestion
- Deep Breathing
- Wrist Pain
- Dry Throat
- Urinary issues
- Chest Distention
