Gall Bladder Disease

WAIT! Don’t get that surgery done just yet! Learn what you’re doctor may not know to tell you!

The most common cause of gall bladder disease is from a poor diet. If you want to avoid surgery, change your diet for the better. NO more greasy foods, or at least cut it down BIG time. That doesn’t just mean greasy fried foods, it means dairy too, too much dairy consumption can really weaken your system. Your doctor may tell you that after surgery you can eat whatever you want, but that is absolutely FALSE! Western doctors typically don't get trained on how foods affect the system, so they may not know to tell you what will harm you.

Acupuncture for Insomnia

Sleeping Tip:

“the best sleeping position is lying on the right side, with legs slightly bent, the right arm bent and resting in front of the pillow and the left arm resting on the left thigh.”

  -Giovanni Maciocia

The reason for the above position to be the best is because a good nights rest depends on the ability of the organs to function at their optimal capability, especially the heart, liver and stomach. In this position the heart can pump blood through out the system more properly, the liver can collect the blood and root the spirit, and it’s easier for the stomach to keep food down.

Cupping Therapy

Cupping therapy is an age-old therapy that not to long ago was a common global family practice. The elders of the family were usually the ones to perform the cupping on another to alleviate them of their issues.  Cupping was done with regular small drinking glasses and a small flame would quickly be placed into and taken out of the cup creating a vacuum in the cup. This vacuum effect would allow the cup to suction onto the surface of the body, which produces a variety of healing affects.

Acupuncture For Anxiety

How can sticking tiny hair thin sterile needles into the body help with anxiety? It first starts with a proper diagnosis; there are multiple patterns that can be diagnosed coming from imbalances from the heart, lungs, liver, spleen and kidneys. To be diagnosed with anxiety an individual has to have uncontrollable worry that disrupts their every day lives. Also, in a 6-month period, this worry has to be present more days then not along with other symptoms.

Acupuncture for Headaches

Did you know that there are at least 18 different types of headaches in Chinese medical theory, coming from at least 8 different causes? The causes can range from childbirth to stress.  Acupuncture can trace the cause of the headache to its internal roots where it can remove blockages allowing free flow energy to take place.

Acupuncture For Frozen Shoulder

Frozen Shoulder is a common complaint among those who have reached their 50’s and later, it is an issue that acupuncture has a good history of helping with.  Frozen shoulder is a difficulty of raising the arm, usually due to inflammation.

The typical cause of shoulder inflammation is unknown, but in Chinese medicine it can be linked to asthma, constipation and even excessive worrying. This is because the lung and large intestine meridians pass through the shoulder; therefore an issue in one area can affect another. As for the worrying, each organ has an emotional aspect to them.  The lungs and large intestine are prone to worry and can suffer greatly from too much worrying.

If you or some you know suddenly comes down with frozen shoulder you might want to ask them if some thing emotionally stressful happened around the same time. Being able to cope with the world around us, letting go and not worrying is in a way the practice of preventative medicine.

As for acupuncture and frozen shoulder, there are many great points and acupuncturist can choose from to alleviate the issue. The sooner one goes for acupuncture the better, issues that have become chronic are a bit more difficult to treat and take longer.

Depending on where most of the pain is felt when lifting the arm, the acupuncturist can see what meridians pass through the area and choose points accordingly. Also, different points on the body are chosen according to the severity and type of discomfort felt. Is the pain dull or more on the sharp side? Does the arm feel heavy or cold?

Personally I have seen acupuncture help an acute frozen shoulder get 80% better within the first treatment. Such success is possible because that individual came in for a treatment within the first week of experiencing shoulder pain.  The longer one waits for treatment then more treatments will be needed for full recovery, but recovery is possible.

I hope you have enjoyed this week’s article and if you know anyone with some shoulder issues please go ahead and forward them this article. If you have any comments or questions please let me know. Have a great week!

Increasing Longevity

Increasing longevity has been sought out by man for millennia, although living forever may not seem like a real possibility, the idea of living a bit longer and healthier is. In Chinese medicine it is the kidneys that are in charge of the aging process, the kidneys store the essence of life, they are the ultimate source of yin-yang energy in the body. Keeping the Kidneys healthy is key to increasing ones longevity of life.

In the theory of Acupuncture the Kidney pathway starts on the soles of your feet and rise to meet the collarbone.  Due to this pathway, it is important to note that the feet are a major factor in keeping the kidneys happy.

The kidneys control many functions in the body, which include:
1.Storing Essence, Governing Reproduction & Development- the kidneys house the genetic blueprint and pass on any and all things hereditary. Those with strong kidneys can not only more easily reproduce, but also reproduce healthy children with strong teeth, bones and a healthy vital brain.

2.Controls Water Metabolism- along with helping the bladder hold and release fluids the kidneys regulate all bodily fluids.  Edema for instance is a kidney deficiency sign.

3.Receives & Grasps Qi- This basically means that the kidneys help the rest of the organs and body perform daily tasks. The kidneys are also what allow us to inhale; they are deeply intertwined with the functions of the lungs.

4.Opens Into the Ear and manifests in the hair- the ears and head hair are external reflections of the kidneys. The ability to hear reflects the health of the kidneys, as does the color and thickness of ones hair.

5.Houses Will Power- The kidneys are said to be the storehouse of our will power, people who are afraid and have little self-control are believed to have kidney deficiency. This always makes me think of the super hero Green Lantern, who uses his will power to fight and over come evil.

As you can tell, together the functions of the kidneys are major; they basically are the source of our lives. As I mentioned earlier the feet play a big role in keeping the kidneys happy. So a simple way to increase longevity is to have a foot massage, go get some reflexology done, get a pedicure, soak your feet in hot water, roll the soles of your feet over a tennis ball, but nothing harder then that or it might hurt.

Take five minutes a day or a few times a week to show your feet how much you appreciate them. Manipulating the feet in some comfortable manner stimulates the kidneys to help create balance of all the organ systems in the body.  It is that simple, love your body and your body will be healthy.

Thank you for reading this week’s article, I hope you’ve enjoyed it and I hope you have a wonderful day. Pease leave any comments or questions.
