Acupressure For The Face

There is one point on the face, just below the nose that can revive people from fainting, help relieve acute back pain and in some cases restore smell. The pathway of this point originates between the kidneys, where a massive amount of energy is stored in the body. This pathway connects from the kidneys to the spine and from there this pathway rises up the spine over the head and ends directly in the center of your upper gums.

In acupuncture the point is called Governing Vessel 26(Gv26) or Shui Gou in Chinese, which translates to Water Trough. The point lies on the upper third of the philtrum, just beneath the nose, directly on the midline of the face. The philtrum is the area between the nose and upper lip that sticks out a bit.

When stimulating this area with an acupuncture needle, the energy that originates between the kidneys is brought up to it, this can help clear stagnation in the pathway, which can be good for:

  1. Acute Low Back Pain
  2. Blocked Nasal Passages
  3. Nose Bleeds
  4. Manic-Depression
  5. Epilepsy
  6. Fainting
  7. Coma
  8. Heat Exhaustion
  9. Facial Paralysis
  10. Facial Pain

Especially useful for driving late at night when you need that extra boost to keep your eyes open, putting good pressure with a finger nail into GV26, for 10-20 seconds for as many times as necessary will assist in keeping you awake.

I hope you've enjoyed this acupressure tip, remember acupuncture and acupressure are holistic and natural ways of boosting the body's innate healing ability. Check out your local acupuncturist and see what they can do for you.
